31 Days: Day 7

This morning in class we talked about God calling Samuel. I drew this stick figure picture while I waited for the students to finish answering a few questions about it.

Ignore the fact that it is just a stick figure. And the line coming out of the cloud is supposed to be God’s hand. They both have Iphones because thats what all students think real phones are.

I love play on words. So God calls Samuel brings both the imagery above and the actual imagery.

When neon signs have letters missing I like to read it like it would be if the burnt out letters are actually not there.

But I digress. One of the questions we talked about with this lesson was how God calls us today. We often think of people calling on iphones (or Androids if you are not an apple fan) but God doesn’t call us in that way.

God speaks to us through His Word. And He equips us through his word.

Sometimes we feel inadequate to serve God, inadequate to do His work or the task that seems to be at hand. But if we are in His word regularly He trains us and equips us for His work along with the Holy Spirit which lives in us and works through us.

God doesn’t call us on our phones, and He doesn’t equip us like we may see schools equipping us, but when we draw near to Him and daily read His word we are equipped and strengthened for service.

I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.    Psalms 40:8

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that [the believer] may be thoroughly/perfectly equipped for every good work.    2 Timothy 3:16-17
