31 days: Day 5

Silence

I’m pretty bad at silence.

I’m pretty bad at just sitting and listening.

But God calls us to rest, to come to Him in a quiet place.

If all we do is speak to Him then we miss what He may be speaking in the silence.

Tomorrow I have very little to do. My goal is to listen in the silence, to listen after I ask God a question, to hear what God has to say.

Silence can be deafening. It can be difficult in this iphone era.

Mark 6:31 (NIV) Jesus said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Psalm 23:2 to 3 (NIV), “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul”.

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV), “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength”.

  1. I too never really valued being quest before the Lord until I began reading a small devotional entitled: “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young. She defined “quiet” and it literally changed my life.
